Florence is, simply put, a little bit stupid. It's ambiguous as to whether he is actually dense or just acts foolish- he could be a lot more intelligent than he lets on. He is overly inquisitive, curious to a fault and has a penchant for unintentionally bugging people until they are annoyed with him. Overly friendly and generous, he a tendency to be a little bit self-sacrificing. Florence is mostly mild-mannered and compassionate but is very cautious (bordering on dislike) towards anyone highly religious. He is subtly reserved towards strangers and prefers to keep his distance in fear of getting into a conflict. Quite stubborn when he’s determined, but he tends to bend to the whims of others when pressured too much. Ren is highly curious and has an idealistic view of the world, but tends to get very existential when he’s shaken up by something. He doesn’t take criminals of all kinds lightly (more so the selfish ones), and like noblemen he tends to get over his head and meddle with them. Due to him traveling a lot Ren has picked up small words and phrases from the many places, though he only knows the literal meaning of the words and often doesn’t know how to use them properly. Florence can’t stand getting dirty for too long. Not getting any exercise and getting sick is nightmare for him.Florence isn’t his real name, but Ren refuses to tell anyone what his true name is.
History: Florence is reluctant to share the name or exact location of his home, but will waste no time in regaling its grandeur to anyone who will listen. Where he comes from, he says, everything is lined in the finest gold. Grand temples that soar past the treetops litter than landscape. Giant monoliths, carved in the image of various deities, stand watch over the people. So, people usually ask, why did he leave such a marvelous place?
Simply put, Florence got bored.
He was an acolyte, spending his days worshipping a deity the locals called Cozamalotl- a rainbow phoenix, of sorts. He enjoyed the attention his profession got, but one thing he didn't enjoy was the uncertainty of his religion. He spent his days interpreting the will of something that no one had seen in centuries, perhaps millennia. Maybe the phoenix didn't even exist. He didn't enjoy the prospect of hailing a god that might not even be there, one that wouldn't even reveal himself to him despite his complete devotion. And so, armed with only his claws and the clothes on his back, he left on the eve of his ascension to High Priesthood to see what else there was in the world. On one faithful night Florence was readying himself for bed when an injured Vulpix stumbled into his camp and promptly fainted at his feet. Ren nearly fainted himself in shock, but after a few minutes of freaking out he managed to awaken the tired Vulpix. He was then promptly met with flames in his face. Screaming and yelling in a hodgepodge of languages Florence eventually managed to calm down Lalita enough to have her listen to him. Soon he convinced her to travel with him to the next town, for her protection. As then traveled Florence became very close to the young fox, seeing her as a little sister of sorts. Upon learning of the Vulpix’s loss Ren aimed to heal her hurting heart and offered to make a team with her.
